Answering the Call without Putting God on Hold

I wouldn’t trade being a pastor for anything in the world. It may seem glamorous, but it’s more than leading and being seen. It’s a ministry in itself.

When God called me, I was SCARED. I wanted him to call my brother, Lewis, because his voice sounded more like a preacher’s voice—hard and strong. I also had a sister (Leola) that I wanted to nominate because her voice was stronger than mine and she wasn’t shy at all! I was shy and didn’t want to be in front of people. I really just wanted to stay in the background.

I couldn’t convince God to call one of them, although I tried the best I could! I’d been living for God for 4 years and God told me if I didn’t, I would be being disobedient. That started to drive it home for me. There was no way I wanted to disobey God.

When I first started preaching, I was so nervous and afraid of all of the faces in front of me. I was looking at them in fear and they were looking back ready for a word.

Now, it’s been years and I’ve gone through A LOT to get to where I am now. There have been attacks on me AND the ministry over the years. Even with all of that, I was led to fight. We will all be persecuted, so I don’t take it personal. Matthew 5:10-12 says, “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.” There’s no way I would let the devil take what God has for me.

That’s the very reason I press. Sometimes I’m up at the earliest hours of the morning preparing for God’s people. I enjoy it now—even in the bad times. I love what I do and wouldn’t take anything for it! I found a love pastoring, reading, studying, fasting, and praying for God’s people. I love my role as a peacemaker and advisor!

This past Sunday just added to that love even more! I was done bringing forth the word and ready to study for my next message when my husband, Wendell, and I were called outside by minister Katie and Co-Pastor Stewart. It seemed urgent! When I got outside, I saw cars lined up down my street! I thought somebody’d died! Next, I heard the horns start to blow and I could hear voices coming from the cars! It was a parade of members just for me! They were screaming “We love you pastor! We miss you!” and dropping of gifts for my pastor’s anniversary.

It was amazing and I was so excited! It meant so much that they took the time to get in their cars to drive BY my house. I am so thankful for everyone that loves me and thankful that God chose me to be your pastor (whether you are an official member or not). I will continue to pray for you and your families. I thank God for you all and wouldn’t trade you for anything either!
